Borrowing Policy - Current and Retired UO Faculty and Staff

Eligibility

  • Current and retired UO Faculty and Staff.
  • Your UO Duck ID is your library card. Bring it with you! 

What Can Be Borrowed

  • Most material in the UO Libraries general collection can be borrowed.
  • You may also borrow material from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). 
  • Your UO Duck ID is your library card. Bring it with you! 

Borrower Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for knowing the due date of borrowed library material and for returning it on time. Check your LibrarySearch account to view a list of borrowed items and due dates.  
  • All items are subject to recall by other users at any time, including between terms. If a recall shortens your loan period, you will receive an email notification and be expected to return it by the new due date.
  • You are responsible for returning borrowed material in the same condition as it was in when borrowed. 
  • UO faculty may designate a proxy to checkout materials for them. You are responsible for items checked out by your proxy.

Loan Periods

  • UO Books: 6 months
  • UO AV material: 6 days
  • UO Bound journals: 6 days
  • Summit material: 12 weeks plus one, 6 week renewal
  • Interlibrary Loan material: Due date determined by the lending library
  • Course Reserves and equipment loans: 2 hours to 7 days
  • Video Games: 6 weeks
  • Videogame consoles and hardware: until 3pm on the third day

Renewals

  • Eligible UO material will renew automatically unless requested by another user. 
    • Typically this includes items in the UO general book collections and AV Materials. 
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials do not automatically renew.
  • Summit material materials do not automatically renew. These items can generally be renewed for 6 weeks. Submit renewal requests in your LibrarySearch account. 
  • Users are sent a courtesy notice when items renew. 
  • When the maximum loan period has been reached, users receive a courtesy notification by email.

Overdue Fines and Fees

  • UO Books: No daily overdue fines, but these items will bill for replacement after 40 days over due. 
  • UO Bound Journals and Periodicals: $2/day
  • Summit or ILL material: $.50/day
  • UO AV material: $2/day
  • Recalled material: $5/day
  • Equipment and Short Loan varies by collection, please inquire at checkout.
  • Course Reserves material: $3/hour
  • Video Games: $2/day
  • Video Game Consoles and Hardware: $2/hour
  • Damaged Item Fee: Repair Cost
  • Item Replacement Fee varies by collection and material type, please inquire at checkout. 
    • Book replacement range from $75-210 per item or volume. 
    • Equipment replacement charges are typically the cost to replace the item. 
    • Borrowers may inquire about replacement of individual items in lieu of paying the item replacement fee.
    • All lost Item invoices will include a $20 non-refundable processing fee, and any accrued overdue fines.  

Billing and Payment

  • Library fines and fees are applied to your UO billing account. These are paid directly to UO Business Affairs
  • If you believe library charges have accrued on your account in error, or you were unable to return items on time due to extenuating circumstances, you may appeal those charges using this form
