Online Learning and In-Person Workshops

Addressing the critical and ethical use of Generative AI tools, UO Libraries has developed multiple learning opportunities for students.

Our short, online module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is a basic introduction to Gen AI for undergraduate students. We also offer an in-person workshop covering the same content as the online module with additional opportunities for conversation and hands-on application.

AI Use Guidelines for the Experimenting with AI Student Award

These guidelines outline the expectations for responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in award-supported projects. They are adapted from established academic integrity and authorship standards and reflect the Libraries’ commitment to ethical engagement with emerging technologies.

1. Acceptable Use

AI tools may be used to support research, learning, or creative exploration as long as their use is transparent and does not misrepresent authorship or originality.   Acceptable uses include:

  • Employing AI to assist with brainstorming, drafting, data exploration, or creative generation.
  • Using AI-generated content as part of a broader, original project that reflects the student’s own analysis, interpretation, or design.

Recipients are expected to:

  • Ensure AI tools do not produce false, misleading, or plagiarized content.
  • Take full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all submitted work, including AI-generated elements.

  2. Disclosure Requirements

Students must clearly disclose how AI tools were used in their project.   Disclosures should include:

  • The name(s) and versions of AI tools or models used (e.g., ChatGPT, DALL·E, Midjourney, Copilot).
  • A brief description of how they were used (e.g., drafting, coding assistance, data visualization).
  • A note on what portions of the work reflect AI-assisted versus human-authored contributions.

  3. Unacceptable Use

The following uses of AI violate academic integrity and are not permitted:

  • Submitting AI-generated work as one’s own without disclosure.
  • Fabricating or falsifying data, citations, or results.
  • Using AI to misrepresent authorship or to create deceptive, discriminatory, or harmful content.

Any such behavior may result in disqualification from the award and referral under University academic integrity policies.

4. Questions and Support

If you are unsure how to appropriately use or disclose AI tools in your project:   Please contact the UO Libraries AI Consultation Station in the Knight Library for guidance.  The Station provides support on ethical AI use, citation, and disclosure practices for all members of the campus community.
