Tiny Galleries
About
The Knight Library Tiny Phone Booth Galleries program was established in 2022 as an initiative to enhance the visual appeal and educational value of the west entrance hall of Knight Library. By repurposing unused historic telephone booths into miniature gallery spaces, the program seeks to promote creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student engagement throughout the University of Oregon. From its outset, the program has encouraged students from all academic disciplines to submit proposals for installations related to their coursework, research, practicum, or graduation requirements. Proposals are evaluated through a competitive jury process, with selected participants receiving a cash award and the opportunity to showcase their exhibits throughout the academic year. Participation offers students a platform to present their artistic concepts, connect with the campus community, and highlight their achievements on their academic CVs. The Tiny Galleries have become a valued feature across campus. Currently, there are multiple Tiny Galleries associated with this program located in the Knight Library and Design Library. All are encouraged to visit these galleries, and students are invited to submit exhibit proposals.

Call for Proposals - Opens March 30, 2026
The University of Oregon Libraries Tiny Galleries Selection Panel seeks proposals for five site-specific installations that build upon and respond to what students are learning through their coursework, research, and experience at UO. The Tiny Galleries repurpose obsolete phone booths in the historic Knight Library entrance halls dating back to 1937 and two glass display cases in the Design Library. We invite proposals for 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional installations that showcase an interesting project, transform the phone booths and display cases into immersive or interactive experiences, display creative works in a traditional gallery format, or other engaging experiences.
If you are interested in this exhibition opportunity, please click the button below to submit your proposal. In addition to general demographic information, you will be required to provide:
- A proposed exhibition title and narrative that articulates your vision and explains how the exhibit connects to your coursework or experience at UO (250–500 words).
- Please indicate if your project contributes towards graduation or practicum requirements.
- Detailed diagrams or visual representations of your planned gallery installation, demonstrating practical use of the space and compliance with all Guidelines and Restrictions.
The Selection Panel will evaluate several criteria when reviewing proposals. A strong submission thoughtfully addresses the distinctive qualities of the venue and adheres to stated restrictions and guidelines, while presenting an innovative installation designed to engage, stimulate, and inform our audience.
ELIGIBLITY
- This opportunity is open to all currently enrolled, registered, degree-seeking students at the University of Oregon, regardless of major.
- Preference will be given to students who will be enrolled throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Preference will also be given to projects that fulfil graduation or practicum requirements.
RESTRICTIONS & GUIDELINES
Due to the historic designation of the Knight Library entrance halls and telephone booths, as well as the nature of the Design Library spaces, there are several restrictions and guidelines to be aware of before submitting your installation proposal.
