About the Douglass Room

The Douglass Room, located in the northwest corner of the third floor of Knight Library, is a vibrant space dedicated to music and audio resources. Open during all library hours, it features the Music Help Desk (staffed during peak times), a comprehensive Audio Collection, historic sheet music, and deluxe facsimile editions. Facilities include listening carrels, Creative Musicians' Workstation computers, Audio Production Studios, a reservable seminar classroom, and a comfortable study area. Services range from music research assistance to equipment lending, and research consultations with the Music and Dance Librarian are also available.

About the UO Libraries Music Collection

Collections
 
The Douglass Room’s music collections include a vast Audio Collection with over 22,000 vinyl LPs, 16,500 CDs, 1,000 cassettes, and recent UO student recital recordings. Highlights also include the Historic Sheet Music Collection, deluxe facsimile editions of medieval music manuscripts, and primary source scores. Acoustic Guitar Kits are also available for lending.

Music and Dance Librarian
Ann Shaffer is the Music and Dance Librarian at the University of Oregon, and is a member of the Arts & Humanities Team.  She is responsible for collection development in the areas of music and dance, providing research assistance to music and dance researchers and practitioners, providing classroom-based and workshop instruction for music and dance areas, outreach to library users in music and dance, and cataloging scores and sound recordings. Mitch Hughey is the Music Cataloger & Metadata Technician.  He is responsible for cataloging music scores and audio recordings, receiving approval plan scores, and providing guidance on the processing and housing of music and audio materials.  Contact Mitch if you need to request rush cataloging on a score or recording that is still in process.
