Join Oregon’s higher education community in the global celebration of Open Education Week 2025, March 3rd-7th, 2025! If you’re new to OER it’s an opportunity to learn the basics, and if you’re already interested in OER it’s an opportunity to dive deeper and make connections with OER advocates at the UO and around the state. At UO Libraries we're offering short 15 minute teaser workshops to introduce you to tools for open pedagogy. Each workshop is offered twice, once in person with light snacks and refreshments and once virtually.

Tuesday, March 4th

• Using WordPress for open pedagogy: From blog posts to term projects, WordPress can serve as the basis for open pedagogy assignments large and small. Join us for this short session to see examples of collaborative blogs, digital portfolios, public projects, and open educational resources that students have helped build to share with the wider community.

• Open Education 101: Join an introductory session on open educational resources and practices with Ariana Santiago, Head of Open Education Services, University of Houston.

• Using Pressbooks for open pedagogy: Explore Pressbooks, an interactive eBook publishing platform that helps you create polished textbooks, modules, and digital learning materials. At UO, authors have created Open textbooks that include interactive activities, and worked with students to co-create learning materials. In this session, you’ll see a demo of two books created with Pressbooks and learn about how you can use the platform to create open and interactive learning materials.

Thursday, March 6th

• Using Timeline JS for open pedagogy: See how TimelineJS, an open-source digital tool, can turn a standard assignment into an engaging visual project. These interactive timelines work well across the disciplines – from mapping scientific developments to tracing literary movements. Join us to see examples from different fields and learn the basics of implementing TimelineJS in your course.

• In-Person: 4:00pm-7:00pm The OSPRIG OER Oscars – This event, hosted by OSPIRG and held in the Knight Library Browsing Room, will celebrate UO faculty who have adopted or authored OER in their classes to help save their students money. Come learn from instructors and students about how OER have impacted teaching and learning at UO, and connect with students, faculty and Library workers excited about open education.
