Printing to Special Paper
We do not allow users to provide their own paper. We recommend checking with the Output Room in Lawrence Hall to learn about printing to cardstock or other nonstandard paper; they also have poster-printing options.
We do not have transparencies available for printing. Because many printers can be damaged if incompatible transparency material is used, you also cannot provide your own.
Print from Microfilm and Microfiche
You can find equipment for scanning and printing content on microfilm and microfiche in the open area in the southeast corner of the first floor of Knight Library. Information on using these scanners can be found on our page on Microforms Services.
Scanning
You will find self-service "face-up" book scanners in the Knight Library, Design Library, Portland Library, Price Science Commons, and Law Library. These scanners can reproduce physical formats like book pages or print images and output single pages, cropped pages, or a series of pages. They're capable of color, gray scale, or black-and-white scans and can output to formats such as PDF, JPG, and others. You can save the files directly to a USB drive, transfer them to your mobile device via QR code, or send them as an e-mail attachment (25 MB email limit).
We suggest scanning no more than 30 pages in one file in order to minimize the chance you will exceed a file size limit.
Some of the library's academic workstations, particularly in the Design Library, also have directly connected flatbed scanners which will allow you to open the image using image-manipulation software without the intermediary step of sending yourself the work.
Copying
Most of the printers in the libraries are multi-function printers (MFPs) and can be used to make black and white or color photocopies as well. Duck Bucks are required for all photocopy services.
Photocopying for Patrons with Disabilities
Library staff will photocopy materials for patrons with disabilities. You may ask staff at any service desk for assistance; however, you must provide a Duck Bucks card loaded with enough value to cover the cost of the copies. If you have more copying than can be done immediately, you may leave your Duck Bucks card with the staff and they will arrange for it to be done within 24 hours.
Fax Machine
The libraries do not have a Fax Machine available for use. The UO Ticket Office provides a Fax Service.
Copyright Compliance
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies, scans, photographs, or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Patrons are responsible for their own copyright compliance and are liable for any infringement resulting from copying, laser printing, or scanning.
