What Can Be Borrowed

  • Most material in the UO Libraries general collection and AV collection can be borrowed.
  • You may also borrow material from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for a fee.

Come to the Library to Register for your Account

    • Photo ID
    • Proof of age
    • Proof of current mailing address, e.g., utility bill
    • Any card with a barcode, e.g., public library card

Borrower Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for knowing the due date of library material that is checked out to you and for returning material on time. Check your LibrarySearch account to view a list of borrowed items and due dates.
  • All items are subject to recall by other library users at any time, including breaks and between terms. If a recall shortens your loan period you will receive an email notification with the updated due date.
  • You are responsible for returning borrowed material in the same condition as it was in when borrowed.

Loan Periods

  • Maximum Loans: 10 items checked out at a time
  • Maximum Holds: 10 holds on checked out items
  • Some collections do not circulate to community users, e.g., Law Popular reading collection
  • UO Books: 3 weeks
  • Audio recordings: 6 days
  • Videos:
    • Most are a 4 hour check out (in-library use)

  • Interlibrary Loan material: Due date determined by the lending library
  • Course Reserves and equipment loans: Hourly loans on limited equipment.

Renewals

  • Eligible material will renew automatically unless requested by another user, the account has expired, or the maximum loan period has been reached. Typically this will include items in the UO general book collection.
  • When the maximum loan period has been reached, users will be sent a courtesy email notification.
