Special Collections and University Archives is thrilled to announce the recent acquisition of the Brian Lanker Collection, a large and compelling selection of his photography, interviews, and film work. Lanker (1947-2011) was a Pulitzer Prize–winning photojournalist and artist based in Eugene, Oregon, whose repertoire encompassed a wide range of subjects, from Steve Prefontaine to advertising for Nike and documentary photography for Life Magazine.
Follow the trials of Elizabeth Goltra's journal as it traverses the Oregon Trail, gets stolen, and is finally returned to UO Special Collections and University Archives more than a century after its original journey.

Each year, the Special Collections and University Archives' fellowship program attracts researchers from around the globe, spanning various disciplines and fields of study. This year is no exception, as we welcome a fantastic group of individuals whose research promises to enrich our understanding of history, culture, and our very own collections.
The UO’s Hayward Field will be home to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials—Track & Field this summer. To mark the occasion, the UO Libraries is hosting “Chasing Gold at Hayward: The UO’s Olympic Trials Legacy,” an exhibit detailing the significant connection between the university and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field.
"It was brand new," said Lauren Goss, athletics archivist at the University of Oregon. "This idea that running … wasn't just something that athletes did and that we observed or spectated, it was something that you could do yourself." An anonymous donation has brought Lauren Goss to the position of athletic archivist at UO, making her the first person with this position on the West Coast.
This year the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Native American Student Union (NASU), UO Libraries, and artist Steph Littlebird came together to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The day was full of diverse and unique offerings, from a campus art walk celebrating Indigenous art and Steph Littlebird’s recent campus installations, to a “landback through art making” event. The day ended with an exhibition and reception in Special Collections & University Archives curated by student and NASU co-director, Marisol Peters.
Bookbinding is a craft with a long history, and local bookbinders including Victoria Wong, lead conservator in UO LIbraries' Beach Conservation Lab, are working to keep the practice alive and books in readers' hands.
