About the University Archives Collections
The Special Collections and University Archives is the official repository of the University of Oregon's permanent historical records dating from 1872 to present. The University Archives was established in 1948 to collect, describe, preserve, display and provide access to permanent historical records created or received in connection with the transaction of university affairs.
The archives includes administrative records, university publications, theses and dissertations, photographic prints and negatives, audio tapes, film, and memorabilia reflecting history and events connected to the history of the University.
Records include Minutes of the Board of Regents; annual reports; the working files of the office of the President, other administrative and academic departments; records of student organizations; and the papers of individual faculty members. The earliest records include the minutes of first meeting of the Directors of the University of Oregon in 1873 and the original receipts for the construction of Deady Hall, the first building on campus. University publications include university catalogs and bulletins, yearbooks, sports schedules and media guides, and alumni directories. Also included are student organizational records, scrapbooks, and diaries.
Photographic prints and negatives reflect many different aspects of University of Oregon history and student life. They include photos of buildings and grounds, public art on campus, persons connected to the university, sports events and personages, student theatrical productions, and other photos of scenes in student life. Film media includes footage of athletic events and some student film productions, such as Ed's Coed, the first student-produced film made at the university (1929).
Memorabilia and ephemera includes university banners and flags, sports trophies and attire, and sweaters and other items bearing the university logo.
