Douglass Room

Location

The Douglass Room is located in the northwest corner of the third floor of Knight Library.  It is home to the Music Help Desk, audio and special collections, audio technology resources, and a comfortable study lounge. 

The room is open whenever Knight Library is open. The Music Help Desk is staffed during peak hours, and we are happy to provide the services described below.

Services

  • Music reference and research assistance, including help with the following: 
    • Locating materials in the Music Reference, Music Score, and Music Book collections
    • Locating materials in the Audio Collection
    • Operating audio equipment at the listening carrels
    • Using the Creative Musicians' Workstation computers
    • Booking reservations for the Audio Production Studios or Classroom 366
    • Using the Audio Production Studios equipment
    • Using the classroom technology in Classroom 366
    • Lending small equipment for in-house use with Douglass Room equipment (headphones, external CD/DVD drives, audio adapters and splitters) 
    • Lending guitar kits
  • Research consultation appointments with the Music and Dance Librarian

  • The Audio Collection, comprising:
    • 22,200 vinyl LP records
    • 16,500 compact discs
    • 1,000 cassettes
    • UO student recital recordings (within the last 5 years; recordings older than 5 years are transferred to Special Collections and University Archives)
  • The Historic Sheet Music Collection
  • Deluxe facsimile editions of medieval music manuscripts and other primary source scores
  • Acoustic Guitar Kits
