Accessibility

The University of Oregon is dedicated to the principle of equal opportunity in education, research, and service. The UO Libraries reflects this commitment by striving to ensure that collections, services, and facilities are accessible to all users. For more help or accommodation, please contact a staff member in person at any service desk in any branch or by phone, e-mail, or chat. You can direct special accommodation requests not addressed below to  Evey Lennon, associate vice provost for Central Services.

Services

Requesting Library Materials

If you need help accessing UO Libraries' material, employees will retrieve physical material for you and deliver it to your preferred UO Libraries branch location or home address. Please note that home delivery is only available to current UO students and employees. See the Requesting at UO Libraries Research Guide for instructions. If you have questions about this service or need assistance, please contact Resource Sharing at 541-346-3055 or ill@uoregon.edu.

Proxy Program

Current UO employees and students needing accessibility help can designate a proxy to act as a representative when checking out material. Your designated proxy will be able to check out material using your library account. Find more information about our proxy program. If you have questions about this service or need assistance, please contact the Knight Library Checkout & Reserves Desk at 541-346-3065 or libhelp@uoregon.libanswers.com.

Photocopying and Scanning

Unfortunately, we cannot photocopy or scan personal or checked-out material for patrons due to copyright restrictions. Current students with accessibility needs who require photocopying or scanning support should contact the Accessible Education Center (AEC) for alternate ways of accessing material at 541-346-1155 or uoaec@uoregon.edu.

Access to HathiTrust Digital Library

Faculty, students, and staff with disabilities related to accessing print materials have expanded access to those in HathiTrust. More information about accessing HathiTrust.

Classroom Assistive Listening Systems

Assistive Listening System (ALS) transmitters are integrated with various room's AV systems to transmit any classroom audio such as microphone(s) or program audio to an Assistive Listening Device (ALD) over an FM transmission. ALDs function as an amplifier that brings a room's audio directly into the listener's ear via an earphone, headphones, or a Neckloop Telecoil Coupler for Hearing Aids.

The Classroom Technology Services team at University of Oregon is responsible for installing and supporting assistive listening systems (ALS) to general pool and joint controlled classrooms that have a microphone installed. Learn more about which classrooms have Assistive Listening Systems.

Accessible Technology

Workstations

Windows computers in the library, both academic workstations and Internet kiosks, offer standard Windows tools for accessibility—magnifier, narrator, on-screen keyboard, and speech recognition.

Academic workstations—which are limited to use by current UO students, faculty, and staff—have ZoomText and Read OutLoud installed.

Academic workstations on Macs include standard accessibility tools as part of the operating system, including Zoom, voice over, dictation, media captions, spoken descriptions, and device control tools for users for whom mice or keyboards pose barriers.

Labs for UO students

The UO provides specialized accessible technology labs for students who have a referral from the Accessible Education Center. For more information, contact uoaec@uoregon.edu or 541-346-1155.

Videos

UO Libraries has videos in many formats covering all disciplines. Some videos include closed captioning. Due to copyright restrictions, UO Libraries does not convert videos from one format to another or add closed captioning. Current students with accessibility needs who require videos to be converted to another format or have closed captioning added should contact the Accessible Education Center (AEC) at 541-346-1155 or uoaec@uoregon.edu.

Facilities

Many of our reservable rooms and spaces are accessible. When reserving a room, look for the wheelchair accessible symbol ♿️.
