Harriett Smith

Recataloging Specialist
Classified Staff

Harriett received her B.A. from the University of Oregon, where she majored in anthropology while also concentrating on English, French, and German studies. A paraprofessional cataloger with over 30 years' experience, she catalogs in all major Western European languages and will take a shot at just about anything other than scripts like Thai, Chinese, Hebrew, or Arabic. As recataloging specialist she deals on a daily basis with cataloging problems and books which cause head-scratching when encountered by other staff. She also does rare books cataloging, creates NACO authority records, retrocons, reinstates, and withdraws materials, and adds new set volumes, added copies, and added location items. Before returning to the UO for work, she spent five years in the Registrar's Office at the University of Texas at Austin, where she ended up working on course schedules and catalogs in the Official Publications office.
