2017 Northwest Women Writers Symposium: “Women and Work,” with keynote speaker Ayana Mathis, “a gifted young writer who chronicles the Great Migration of African Americans to the North in her novel, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie. The book was selected as an Oprah’s Book Club read in 2013. Mathis is a graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop, and is currently an Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Iowa.
