Winter 2016 Canvas Hands-on Sessions
UO Libraries' Center for Media and Educational Technologies (CMET) is offering four Canvas training sessions to kick off the winter term (Register here):
Office 365 Session - Thursday, January 5, 2017 - 11:00 am - noon
We are in the process of reviewing the Microsoft Office 365 integration. When integrated with Canvas (hopefully Winter 2017), students will be able to easily submit assignments they are storing on OneDrive. The added bonus is it provides a tool for student collaboration on documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets. In anticipation that this will be a useful tool, we'll cover how you can set up these types of assignments in Canvas, and other collaborative uses of Office 365.
Grades Session – Thursday, January 5, 2017 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Are you a Grades savant or a new Grades user? This workshop is for you. Topics will include setting up your assignments to be graded, managing the Grades tool, dealing with issues that might arise and challenge your knowledge. We’ll cover how to prevent gottcha’s and make the Grades tool work for you! Bring your questions and ideas and you will leave with a greater understanding of Grades.
MasteryPaths Session – Friday, January 6, 2017 – 10:00 am - noon
The Canvas MasteryPaths feature allows instructors to customize learning experiences for students based on student performance on specific learning objectives. MasteryPaths is based on differentiated assignments, an existing Canvas feature. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify activities for each student’s learning path, and differentiate assignments for required learning, optional learning, and/or choosing their own content and assignments within a specific path. Since this is a new tool, we strongly recommend working with Academic Technology/Canvas Support staff to set up MasteryPaths in your course.
The New VeriCite Session - Friday, January 6, 2017 – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Beginning Winter 2017 VeriCite will be embedded in SpeedGrader. So, no more setting up two assignments or using the VeriCite External Tool and not having SpeedGrader for document markup! The new interface is great, and what many instructors have requested! In 30-45 minutes instructors will learn how to transition from the External Tool VeriCite to the use of VeriCite in SpeedGrader.
All sessions will be held in the Proctor Classroom (Room 41) on the ground floor of Knight Library. Bring your laptop, or we'll provide one for you.
This event is free and open to the public. Accommodations for people with disabilities will be provided if requested in advance by calling 541-346-3056, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
