Document Center Services

Reference service: Librarians are available to answer research questions in person, via e-mail, or by telephone, at their individual numbers (see About Us page.)

Course-related instruction: Document Center librarians support University instructors with relevant course-related classroom lectures, library tours, bibliographies, and group project consultation. Arrangements for such activities should be made at least two weeks in advance if possible. Faculty and GTFs should contact the appropriate librarian to arrange for instruction.

Workshops: Librarians will conduct or arrange workshops for students, faculty, and community groups on topics related to government and business information. Examples of previous workshops are "Census 2000", "Patent Information", "Internet Statistics", and "Historical Research with Government Sources".

Statistical support: The department is one of the four "coordinating agencies" of Oregon's State Data Center, affiliated with the U.S. Bureau of the Census. In that capacity, the department provides assistance to the University and the wider Oregon community in locating, retrieving, using, and interpreting available statistical data from governmental sources.

Patent searching: Our librarians will instruct and assist patrons who want to investigate existing U.S. patents. Useful resources include the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's patent databases and trademark databases, and the Official Gazettes of the US PTO. We can make no guarantees as to the completeness or accuracy of any search performed with our assistance.
