Douglass Room (Knight 365) Closed for Renovations during Summer
Home to the UO Libraries' audio recording collections and music resources, the Douglass Room is undergoing a major renovation this summer in order to better meet the needs of our music patrons in the 21st century.
The renovation project will begin on Monday, June 17, and is slated for completion on Friday, August 16. During this two-month period, the Douglass Room will be closed to the public due to the construction work. For the first four weeks of summer term (June 24-July 19), drop-in music reference assistance will be available at the service desk next to the Music Reference Collection, Monday-Thursday, 12-4 p.m.
For the duration of the project, the audio recording collection (CDs, LPs, cassettes) and the Historic Sheet Music Collection must be moved into temporary storage elsewhere in Knight Library. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of available space within the library, there was no way to store a collection of over 50,000 recordings in a place where it could also be accessible for checkout. During this two-month period, if you need access to recordings for teaching, learning, or research, we encourage you to make use of our many streaming audio databases; if there is a specific recording you need that is not available electronically, we will be happy to help you obtain a copy through Summit or InterLibrary Loan. Access to our print music materials (books, journals, scores, reference items) will be unaffected.
You are welcome to contact Music and Dance Librarian Ann Shaffer (email@example.com) if you need any assistance.
Slated to reopen for fall 2019, the redesigned space will include many exciting new features including:
- Two new recording/mixing spaces, which can be used together as a control room/studio combo, or used separately for different projects
- More comfortable and welcoming study space
- Open browsing access to the audio recording collection
- Two additional Creative Musicians’ Workstations iMacs, for a total of five workstations
- Updated instructional technology and furniture in classroom 366
Keep an eye open for a future announcement of the grand opening of the newly renovated Douglass Room at the start of fall term 2019. We hope you’ll come join us to explore the new space!
