As UO Announces Campaign Milestone, Library Celebrates $36+ Million Raised
UO Libraries was first academic unit on campus to reach its fundraising goal
With the official announcement earlier this week that the University of Oregon has surpassed the $1 billion halfway mark in its campaign, we thought it also would be a good time to update our many supporters on the UO Libraries' progress to date.
Good news! The generosity of our supporters made it possible for the UO Libraries not only to meet, but to exceed our fundraising goal of $36 million. We reached that milestone in December 2015 -- making the library the first academic unit on campus to achieve its goal in the campaign. At fiscal year-end (June 30, 2016), we had raised $39,350,873, putting us at 109% of our goal. Wow!
"Our students and faculty need an outstanding system of libraries to create groundbreaking research accross all disciplines and throughout all of campus," said Keri Aronson, director of development with the UO Libraries. "I like to say to our donors, your gift to the library packs a one-two punch: not only does it support the services and resources we provide to the school or college from which you graduated, it also helps us serve every other school and college on our campus as well."
The UO Libraries was especially well supported during #DucksGive, the UO’s first-ever giving day, which ran from midnight, May 19 to noon, May 20, 2016. We received 125 gifts totalling $528,095. With these donors' help, we met the DeArmond Challenge: our generous supporter Leona DeArmond '51 unlocked her challenge gift of $500,000 to help fund the new Allan Price Science Commons and Research Library.
Despite the fact that the library has already surpassed its original goal at the halfway mark of the campaign, Aronson stressed that her work is not done. "We have surpassed some fundraising targets but have fallen short in others," she said, citing collections, technology, and student employment as key areas still in need of support. A BIG THANK YOU to all our donors and friends who have made our progress possible. You inspire us to reach higher every day!
