McKenzie Computing Lab

The McKenzie Lab is located in Room 101 in the basement of McKenzie Hall, and is comprised of one instructional classroom and an open lab. The McKenzie Lab and the EMU Computing Lab are managed by Information Services.

The instructional classroom has 21 PCs including an instructor's workstation, plus a projector and screen.

The McKenzie open lab contains 19 PCs and 2 Macs.  The McKenzie lab and classroom share a color laser printer. More information about printing and scanning may be found here:  http://library.uoregon.edu/print-scan-copy

Students must log in using their DuckIDs in order to use the lab computers.

See below for our software policies and a list of software available in this lab.
For questions or requests regarding software, contact Peter Verrey.

Reservations

The Mckenzie Lab is closed for the 2021-2022 Academic year.

The McKenzie Lab can be reserved for instructional sessions and staff training.   Priority for reservations is given to student instruction and orientation scheduled by UO community members.  Requests from non-university groups will be considered on a case-by-base basis.  The open lab cannot be reserved during academic terms.

For questions about the lab or the reservation process, contact Peter Verrey

After-hours reservations - University groups

The UO Libraries charge a $13 hourly fee per lab for lab use outside of normal operating hours. This policy applies to all labs operated by the Libraries.

When the Libraries receive a request for an event to be held outside normal hours, the UO requestor will be asked to agree to the fee and must provide a university index from which the Libraries can JV the funds. An event will not be confirmed until the index is received. Funds will be JV’ed after the event is complete.

The after-hours charge will be $13 per hour, or part of an hour, for the scheduled event.  Additionally, if the lab needs to be opened for an event, a student will be scheduled to start work one half hour before the start of the event, incurring an additional $13 charge.  If the event ends after the normal operating hours, a student will be scheduled to work one half hour past the scheduled time, incurring a $13 charge.  However, If the event both begins and ends outside normal operating hours, only one $13 fee will be charged.

Reservation requests - Non-University Groups

The McKenzie Lab may be reserved for instructional activities and training by non-university groups for a fee.  Availability for non-university groups is limited and is decided on a case-by-case basis.   The charge for use of the McKenzie Lab by non-university groups is $100-$200 per hour, up to a daily maximum of $500.  Exact hourly charge is determined by complexity of setup and staff time required.  Non-university groups who would like to reserve the lab need to submit this form.

Software - University Groups

Please see below for a list of software currently installed in the McKenzie Lab.

Instructors are strongly encouraged to make arrangements to test software at least a day prior to the class, to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Instructors may use their own laptop with the overhead projector, but should test their setup ahead of time as we can't stock every possible video adapter for every type of laptop.

We regret that we are unable to purchase additional software; however, a department may supply software to be installed in the classroom temporarily, along with verification of licensing. Software installed in this manner will be removed at the end of the academic term.

We do not provide administrator-level access to our lab computers, so please contact us if you wish to install software.

Requests to install software must be received at least ten (10) business days prior to the date of instruction, and the installation disc or discs, with verification of licensing, delivered to Peter Verrey in Information Services no later than ten (10) business days prior to the class. At least four weeks' notice is requested for fall term software requests.

The Libraries assess an hourly charge to install software that is requested with less than ten (10) business days' notice.   This includes newer versions of existing software. These types of special requests require significant staff time to determine if the software will run on our workstations and is compatible with other software running on the workstations, develop an installation procedure, coordinate the software installation with other events scheduled in the labs or classrooms, and actually install the software.

As of July 1, 2015, the charge for software installations will be $50 per hour or part of an hour, with a three-hour minimum.  Most software installations require 3-5 hours of staff time.  Requests for special software installations received with less than ten (10) business days' notice will need to include a campus index before work can begin .  There may be a charge even if Libraries staff are not able to install the software.

This policy applies to all computer labs/classrooms operated by the Libraries.

Software - Non-University Groups

Please see below for a list of software currently installed in the McKenzie Lab.

If specialized software is needed, installation must be done by LTS staff.  We do not provide administrator-level access to the lab or instructor computers.

The Libraries assess an hourly charge to install software requested by non-University groups.  Requests for software must be submitted at the time the reservation request is submitted.

The installation discs, or Web site credentials for downloading, with verification of licensing, must be delivered to Peter Verrey in Information Services no later than ten (10) business days prior to the class.

Requests for software installation require significant staff time to determine if the software will run on our workstations and is compatible with other software running on the workstations, to develop an installation procedure, to coordinate the software installation with other events scheduled in the labs or classrooms, and to actually install the software.

The charge for software installations for non-university groups is $75 per hour or part of an hour, with a three-hour minimum.  Most software installations require 3-5 hours of staff time.  Requests for special software installations will not be accepted less than ten (10) business days' prior to an event .  There may be a charge even if LTS staff are not able to install the software.
