Equipment Glossary

Continue reading for descriptions of the various peices of technology equipment that can be found in many of the classrooms around campus.

Crestron Touch Panel

Function: Used to control any DVD player, projector, VCR, document camera and more from an intuitive touch-panel. The correct equipment can be turned on and off, the right settings are selected and the media is displayed automatically with the touch of a button.




Extron Switcher

Function: Used to switch between multiple VGA, S-video, and composite video signals, enabling presenters to incorporate and access a variety of different sources.




Digital Projector

Function: Used to present digital media on a screen to a large audience. Various digital sources can be used as the signal source for Digital Projectors.




Document Camera

Function: Used to present textual materials and small 3-D objects to a large audience. Used in conjunction with a Digital Projector.




Wireless Microphone

Function: Used to pick up and amplify the users voice. Primarily only available in larger classrooms and auditoriums. Note that a wired microphone is also likely to be available in rooms with a wireless microphone.




DVD

Function: Used to watch DVDs or listen to MP3s.




VCR

Function: Used to play and record video cassettes.




Transparency Projector

Function: Used to present transparency documents to a large audience. No other digital technology is required for use.
