Newly Available Collection: Charles Garnet Trimble papers

Charles G. Trimble (1884 – ) was a medical missionary in China. He was associated with the Methodist Mission in Foochow in 1914, and later with the Alden Speare Memorial Hospital in Yenping. The collection (1914-1964) contains correspondence, collected Chinese documents, and a few personal items.

Cannon was a physician in Eugene, Oregon. The collection consists of property books, a scrapbooks, and day books (1907, 1909, 1910, 1912 – 1915; 7 volumes), which list patients, diagnosis, treatment, and charge, and contain personal diary entries.

The College of Human Development and Performance first opened in 1947 and closed in 1995. The college offered graduate programs in physical education, community health, leisure studies and services, human services, gerontology, and corrections. The collection contains records that document the functions and activities of this college.

In Oregon, artists and crafts people worked on Work Projects Administration (WPA) projects for schools, universities, hospitals, and the Forest Service. This collection includes photographs of paintings and murals that were installed in Oregon public schools, University of Oregon and Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children, Portland, Oregon. Of interest to the researcher is the collection of photographs of woodwork, art, and paintings for Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, Oregon.

Granville Frank Knight (1904-1982) was a physician and anti-communist activist. As a physician he specialized in nutrition and allergies; as president of the Pure Water Association of America he advocated against fluoridation of public water. Knight was an active member of the John Birch Society, serving as president of the California branch. The collection includes correspondence, speeches and writings that reflect Knight’s career.

Collection comprises the papers of Edward A. Schaper, an American physician who specialized in the treatment of tuberculosis and directed tuberculosis sanatoriums. Papers include autobiographical writings; journals and diaries; travel articles, stories and essays on tuberculosis and sanitariums; correspondence; clippings and photographs; and sound recordings, all circa 1900 to 1964. Schaper was a radio and sound recording enthusiast and he recorded radio commentaries, music recitals, and speeches by presidents and politicians, as well as his own commentaries, telephone calls and letters, from the 1930s to the 1940s.

Dwight Fay Rettie worked for and managed a variety of Federal government agencies from 1955 to 1986. The Papers contain documents pertaining to Rettie’s work for various government agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management. The materials include policy papers, subject files, meeting minutes, speeches, and correspondence. Also included are personal correspondence, writings, and publication materials.
