The Office of Multicultural Academic Success (OMAS) at the University of Oregon, which took over (in part) the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Council for Minority Education, specializes in providing a culturally supportive environment that empowers self-identified students of color to fulfill their educational and career goals. The collection contains records that document the functions and activities of the Council on Minority Education and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. As of November 2012, the archives do not yet contain any records from OMAS.

Established in 1942, the Asian Studies Program at the University of Oregon is one of the oldest interdisciplinary programs in the United States to focus on Asia. The collection contains files on the Pacific Rim Studies center, program evaluation, outreach to public schools, funding and grant proposals, essay contests, correspondence, and committee and department meeting minutes, 1966-1982.

Asian Studies Program Records

Newly available collection: MEChA Mujeres records

MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano Aztlan), a University of Oregon student union began as a part of the  Chicano Student Union in 1964. The group took its current title in 1969.  Mujeres is a program within MEChA that began in 1995 and is focused on Chicanas and other women of color. The collection contains an informational pamphlet.

Yoshiko Uchida was a writer of children’s books. The Uchida Papers contain manuscripts, correspondence and material relating to her literary career. The collection contains materials on fourteen of her books. The majority of Uchida’s papers concern Japan, specifically Japanese folktales and children’s stories. The correspondence in this collection primarily concerns Uchida’s editor and fan mail from school children. The manuscripts are arranged chronologically starting with The Dancing Kettle, written in 1949, and ending with The Samurai of Gold Hill, written in 1972.

Inez Hogan (1895-1973) was an educator, author, lecturer, and illustrator of books for children. Hogan is most noted for her animal stories, including a series about animal twins, and her “Nicodemus” series about a young African American boy and his family and friends. The collections consists of forty years of correspondence, literary manuscripts, illustrations, research materials, one scrapbook, photographs, publicity materials, and biographical information.
