Newly Available Collection: Bertram Telfer McBain papers

Bertram Telfer McBain was a paper mill manager and consultant. The papers include proposals and studies for pulp mill sites, a manuscript history of the pulp and paper industry in the Pacific Northwest, photographs and a scrapbook of the Crown Pulp Mill, Oregon City (1914), and photographs of construction of the Oregon City-West Linn bridge (1922).

Frederick C. Proehl (1880-1970) was a banker, a grocer, worked for Boeing, and was a member of the Greenback political party, which nominated him for President in 1952 and 1956. The collection (1943-1970) contains correspondence, letters written to newspapers, speeches, a masters thesis regarding the Greenback Party by Proehl’s grand-nephew, and publications of the Monetary Reform Committee.

Lippman Sachs and his brothers immigrated to America in 1861 and settled in Jacksonville, Oregon where they operated a dry goods store until 1875; the Reames Brothers then purchased the building and continued a general store until 1886. The collection (1874-1875; 1881-1884)) contains a Sachs Bros. ledger account book which also includes account pages of the Reames Bros. store.
