Gertrude Jewett was the wife of William Buckhout Greeley, a forester and conservationist who worked during the first half of the twentieth century. Mrs. Greeley worked closely with her husband. The collection contains an oral interview of Gertrude Jewett from 1960 regarding her husband’s career.

Blodgett, Jr. (1901-1987) was active in the timber industry, serving as president, chairman, director and secretary of several timber companies including his family’s company, Blodgett Company Ltd. The collection contains timber/lumber related organization files, subject files, maps and photographs.

William J. Smith (dates unknown) grew up in Detroit, Oregon, at the turn of the century, and went into the family timber business. The Smith & Smith Mill processed timber in the Macky Place area. The collection consists of 69 photographs documenting the mill, the original town of Detroit, and landscape, and include several shots of the transportation of a donkey engine across a river and up a steep slope in 1911.

In Oregon, artists and crafts people worked on Work Projects Administration (WPA) projects for schools, universities, hospitals, and the Forest Service. This collection includes photographs of paintings and murals that were installed in Oregon public schools, University of Oregon and Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children, Portland, Oregon. Of interest to the researcher is the collection of photographs of woodwork, art, and paintings for Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, Oregon.

June D. Drake was a commercial photographer in Silverton, Oregon, from 1904-1960. He used his photographs of Silver Falls in an active and successful campaign to establish Silver Falls State Park in 1931. The collection consists of 28 vintage prints in studio mounts, documenting landscape and events in the Silverton area. One series shows railroad construction.

William A. Langille (1869-1956) came with his family to Hood River, Oregon in 1882. The Langille family operated the Cloud Cap Inn on Mt. Hood. Langille was a prospector in the Klondyke gold fields and Alaska state forester; eventually he was appointed forest manager for the Oregon State Parks Department. This collection contains correspondence, short stories, articles and reports that focus on his time in Alaska; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Oregon.
