Newly Available Collection: T. F. and G. F. Williams legal document

The collection contains a written legal agreement dated November 5, 1883, between T. F. Williams and G. W. Williams, both of Cascade Locks, Oregon, and also William Haaker of the Importing and Fish Preservation House, in New York City, concerning the sale of sturgeon and caviar.

The collection contains letters patent issued on August 2, 1881, to Thornton F. Williams of Cascade Locks, Oregon for revolving dip nets (no. 245,251) and fishing machines (no. 301,653). The letters patent include specification descriptions and diagram.

Everding and Farrell Co. was a wholesale produce and commission firm, that was later associated with logging and the salmon packing industry. The collection (1888-1900) contains indentures and other legal papers, incoming correspondence, financial records and land surveys, and a listing of Washougal lands, costs, and expenses.

Newly Available Collection: Howard Vincent Morgan papers

A native of Tillamook and the son of a fisherman, Howard Vincent Morgan (1914-2012) served in the Oregon state legislature, as Oregon’s Public Utilities Commissioner, as Federal Power Commissioner, and also chaired the Democratic Party of Oregon from 1952-1956. The collection contains Federal Power Commission files including correspondence, memoranda, and subject files, Oregon files that include Oregon Public Utilities Commissioner files, correspondence relating to Oregon matters, Morgan’s senatorial campaign files, biographical material, and printed matter.

Newly available collection: A.B. Hallock journal

Hallock was born in Utica, N.Y., and was trained as a cabinet maker, draftsman, surveyor, and civil engineer and was one of Portland’s earliest contractors. The journal describes his experiences on the coast, daily transactions and experiences during construction jobs. He fished, trapped, observed the weather, visited, and was visited.

Charles Feller (1889-1966) became an Oregon fish merchant and wholesaler in Marshfield and Coos Bay, Oregon and established the Charles Feller Company which traded world-wide in canned, smoked, and frozen fish. The collection contains company records including ledgers, journals, and account books, fish catch books, commercial and personal correspondence, Charleston, Oregon harbor improvement files, and scrapbooks.
