A.C. (Arnold C.) Heyman (1878-1975) was an Oregon farmer and advocate of public power. Collection consists of correspondence, speeches and radio talks, letters to the editor, materials on the Linn County PUD, research materials on public power, and personal material.

Newly Available Collection: Howard Vincent Morgan papers

A native of Tillamook and the son of a fisherman, Howard Vincent Morgan (1914-2012) served in the Oregon state legislature, as Oregon’s Public Utilities Commissioner, as Federal Power Commissioner, and also chaired the Democratic Party of Oregon from 1952-1956. The collection contains Federal Power Commission files including correspondence, memoranda, and subject files, Oregon files that include Oregon Public Utilities Commissioner files, correspondence relating to Oregon matters, Morgan’s senatorial campaign files, biographical material, and printed matter.

Walter Henry Gerke (c. 1891-1982) and Florence Holmes Gerke (1896-1964) were landscape architects. The collection contains 2 flat file folders of architectural plans reflecting their work on the Bonneville Power Navigation project and the Washington Park Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.

Newly available collection: Benson Claire Condit papers

Benson Clare Condit (1869-1960 or 1959) was an electrical engineer who worked operated an engineering consulting business and worked on many water-power electric plants along the Pacific Coast, and was also locator and designer of a 20,000 horsepower hydro-electric plant, “Condit Dam,” on the White Salmon River, Washington. The collection contains professional working files that include reports, graphs, plans, specifications, estimates, and photographs for a variety of engineering jobs.

Newly available collection: Olympia Light and Power Co. records

The Olympia Light and Power Company, a waterwheel-generated hydro-electric power plant that was organized in 1890, brought the first electricity to Olympia and Tumwater, Washington. The collection contains correspondence, reports, financial records, and legal papers.

The Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association (ORECA) was formed in 1942. The collection contains articles of association, membership information, committee minutes and reports, financial records, correspondence and memoranda, contracts, and publications, 1952-1958; the Association destroyed its earlier records.

Collection consists of correspondence, speeches, reports, photographs and material covering U.S. and Northwest history and politics. A major portion details Pierce’s involvement with New Deal programs. The papers deal with agriculture, irrigation and land reclamation, public ownership, forest management, and the development of hydroelectric power. There are substantial files on the Civilian Conservation Corps, Public Works Administration and Works Progress Administration, files on significant government issues and minority groups. The subject files contain pamphlets and material on pertinent topics, speech files, bills introduced by Pierce, a newspaper clippings file, personal and estate papers, and drafts of Pierce’s memoirs.
