The collection contains a letter dated August 30, 1869, from Melchi Johnson, of Bethel, Polk County, Oregon, to Johnson’s daughter. In the letter, Johnson is concerned that the daughter might feel neglected and reminds her of all the reasons she is not forgotten, and also informs the daughter about the property in Salem that the family is considering purchasing.

The collection contains a letter dated July 30, 1868, by Miles M. Miller, of Salem Oregon, to L. J. Powell. In the letter, Miller suggests that he would like to become closer acquaintances with Powell, that he would love to stay in school, and reminds Powell that he has not yet paid his dues to the [Masonic?] Lodge.

Newly Available Collection: Blue Mountain Consolidated Wagon Road Co. articles of incorporation

The collection contains articles of incorporation, dated July 18, 1868, for the Blue Mountain Consolidated Wagon Road Company, of La Grande, Oregon; the incorporators were J. S. Ruckell, R. B. Meacham, and T. F. Carter. The articles explain that the company wished to build their own wagon roads from Umatilla, Oregon and other points on the Columbia River, to Walla Walla and other points in the Washington Territory.

The collection contains a letter and accompanying diagrams, dated June 9, 1866 from lieutenant William A. Shipley of the Quartermaster’s office, to his superiors, regarding public buildings and supplies he wishes to sell. In the letter he asks permission to sell the public buildings at Siletz Block House, and provides diagrams showing the plan and construction of the House, and also a list of property and other supplies.
