Finding Journal Articles

Except for SciFinder Scholar, all of the following can be accessed from the UO Libraries home page, on the left, under articles, where you may specify a database. Or, you can use the OneSearch option under the "articles" tab in the header of any page.

Most of these databases offer the FindText service. Look for the button: Click on the FindText button to see if UO has the article in electronic full-text. If not, you can check if the UO Libraries own a print copy of the journal containing an article you want, or request it from another library.

ArticleFirst

  • An interdisciplinary article citation database, heavy on science and technology, covering over 13,000 journals, 1990 to present. It is most useful for citation verification and making interlibrary loan requests directly from the database.

ArXiv

  • The physics and math e-print archive. See particularly Condensed Matter and Quantum Physics.

Google Scholar

  • A mixed bag, but can be helpful as it searches the full text of pdfs. A good source for "grey" literature such as government reports, etc. Be sure to connect from the library's web site so as to get the FindText connection and access to our online journals.

INSPEC

  • The most comprehensive index available for the physics literature, covering from 1969 to the present.

SciFinder Scholar

  • SciFinder Scholar is a desktop research tool for information on chemical and chemistry-related topics. Available in the Science ITC, or you may download the program to your own computer from http://library.uoregon.edu/dc/indexes/index.php?go=1&db=196 . Access is limited to UO faculty, students and staff, and to two users at a time.

Web of Science

  • Web version of the Science Citation Index from 1975 to the present. This interdisciplinary database allows you to find out who has cited a known reference, as well as search for current research articles by author, topic, etc.
