Streamed Workshops on Use of Library Resources and Space Planned for Wed., Dec. 5

Rick LuggRick Lugg of Sustainable Collection Services will present a live streamed workshop called “Rethinking Library Resources” on Wednesday, December 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at http://live.oregonstate.edu/workshop. The workshop may be viewed from any networked computer.

A second session, “Data-Driven Deselection for Monographs: Achieving a Sustainable Print Collection,” scheduled from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., will focus on several case studies and examine processes and tools that can support data-driven deselection.

Lugg’s presentations will serve as a catalyst for campus discussions of library collections and space. As the need for more individual and collaborative study space grows on campus, administrators look for ways to better use library space. Lugg notes: “Library shelves are increasingly full, and more books are being published than ever. Yet surprisingly few are being used.” For more information about Sustainable Collection Services, visit http://sustainablecollections.com/.

The workshops are cosponsored by the Oregon State University Libraries and the University of Oregon Libaries. For more information, contact Mark Watson, Associate University Librarian for Collections and Access, 541-346-1896, mrwatson@uoregon.edu.
