Abstract
Bailey Millard (1859-1939) was a printer, journalist and publisher who became acquainted with prominent writers. The collection consists of portraits of Jack London, Frank Norris, Edwin Markham, David Graham Phillips, and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Biographical Sketch
Bailey Millard was born in Markesan, WI. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's deveil and tramp printer. He worked his way west througfh a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin. From 1913-1914 he was in New York, managing editor of Munsey's. In San Francisco he was acquainted with an published a succession of new writers, among them Jack London and Edwin Markham, He first published Joaquin Miller's best-known poem, "Columbus."
