One factor UO librarians and subject specialists consider when deciding on which resources to add to the library's collections is user response to trial databases. Trial databases offer free access for a given period to journal articles and other resources covering many disciplines and special interests—everything from New World cinema to Russian mass media to sports medicine. UO students, faculty, and staff can explore the databases during the free trial period and provide feedback on their usefulness.
The UO Libraries website will be down beginning at 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, Nov. 2. The website is expected to be back online by 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
Electrical work and routine maintenance are being carried out while the site is offline.

The UO Libraries are pleased to present So You Want My Job?, a panel discussion and networking opportunity featuring recent UO graduates. The event will take place on Thursday, November 15, in the Knight Library Browsing Room, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A publication party to celebrate the release of OUR Journal's third issue will take place on Thursday, November 8, at 4 p.m., in the Knight Library Browsing Room. The event is open to UO faculty, staff, and students and will feature previews of the new issue. Attendees will be able to meet editors and authors, as well as learn about the submission and publication process.

An exhibit showcasing the history of women’s political involvement in Oregon is on display in the cases located at the east and west entryway corridors in the Knight Library. The exhibit is entitled “From Suffrage to Citizenship: Empowering Oregon Women in the Twentieth Century and Beyond”. It was created to mark the centennial of women’s suffrage in Oregon.
As part of the library’s Insight Seminar programming, UO Professor Jim Earl will offer a free public lecture entitled “The Invention of Romantic Poetry,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29, in Knight Library’s Browsing Room.

An exhibit featuring original political cartoons by artist Quincy Scott is on display in the Knight Library’s Special Collections and University Archives. The exhibit, entitled “Political Pictures: Presidential Elections in Editorial Cartoons,” displays cartoons and drawings from 1932 to 1948.

The UO Science Library is displaying a traveling exhibit that explores Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theory. Entitled “Rewriting the Book of Nature: Charles Darwin and the Rise of Evolutionary Theory,” the exhibit will be on display until December 1, 2012.
