On Friday, May 17, 2013, a free workshop on the Adobe After Effects software package will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop is available to all UO full-time students and is scheduled to take place in Room 267 in Knight Library. Participants should be interested in creating music videos, and a background in Adobe suite software is preferred.

The UO Undergraduate Symposium, cosponsored by the UO Libraries, celebrates the remarkable contributions UO undergraduates make to research and other creative work in a wide range of disciplines. The third annual symposium is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2013, and will serve as the centerpiece for the second annual University of Oregon “Celebrate Undergraduate Achievement Week” (May 13 through May 17), featuring a variety of events showcasing undergraduate accomplishments.

Through May 31st, Special Collections and University Archives on the second floor of Knight Library will display a selection of the Morris Graves Papers, which comprises drawings, photographs, blueprints and building plans, exhibition materials, notes, writings, incoming and outgoing correspondence, travel documents, medical and financial records, art sale records, and ephemera. The UO’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art houses many of the artist’s paintings and drawings.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm, the UO Libraries will cosponsor a free public lecture by Robert Glenn Howard, professor of communication arts and director of the Folklore Program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, The talk, entitled "Back to the Newly-Digital Networked Normal," will survey new communication methods and new media in the digital age.

An exhibit titled “Russia Inside Out: Voices and Faces” is on display in front of the Knight Library Browsing Room.
The exhibit features books about the Russian language, as well as a cookbook “accordion” with various ethnic dishes that were popularized and discovered via the Russian language in the former Soviet Union.
A special map indicates the diversity of ethnicities in 21st-century Russia, where many ethnic peoples had settled long before the Slavs. Images of national costumes are featured for some of the representatives from 185 ethnic groups living in Russia.

An exhibit highlighting the history of film culture at the University of Oregon is on display in the cases located in the east and west entryway corridors of Knight Library. The exhibit, which will run through August 2013, is entitled Kin-O: A History of Movie Culture on Campus.

If you're looking to get outdoors this spring, stop by the Science Library and check out a display featuring fun local hikes. Some hikes are right downtown, while others are within a one-hour drive from Eugene. The display will let you know what plants are blooming and where, and there are brochures to help you along various hikes.
