MICROFORMS Discussion List

The MICROFORMS Discussion List

Hosted by the University of Oregon Libraries' Document Center

The MICROFORMS list is intended to serve as an online discussion of the organization, preservation, use, and other public service aspects of library microforms collections. This list seeks a new home, as the listowner is retiring.

Topics that could be addressed:

Best practices and policies for public service
Bibliographic control of MF sets; e.g., analytic records in OPACs
Equipment reviews
Preservation of public-use collections
Collection development issues
New developments in microform technology.

MICROFORMS is currently unmoderated. However, the listowner may revoke the subscription of any contributor who engages in ad hominem attacks or otherwise gratuitously fails to act in a manner consistent with civility. Direct commercial "advertising" (broadcast messages about products from suppliers) prohibited. A number of industry representatives do read this list, however, and may respond to inquiries as a service to the community.

Do not send off-topic messages, long messages (over 3K), or messages with attachments. Many users pay for their connections and email accounts, and resource-intensive messages represent an unsolicited expense. Also, viruses and worms use mail attachments and many users are now instructed by their system operators not to open or accept attachments of any kind.

To subscribe, send the following command to majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu in the BODY of your e-mail:

    subscribe MICROFORMS

Send posts to MICROFORMS@lists.uoregon.edu.

To UNsubscribe, send the following command to majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu in the BODY of your e-mail:

    unsubscribe MICROFORMS

If this does not work, or if you send a message to the list and it is delayed in appearing, then appears as a forward from the list owner, then you have had a change of email address since you first subscribed. It is common paractice for email server administrators to set up your old address to forward to your new address, so that you continue to see our postings, but your reply does not reach us. This creates a huge workload for list administrators, as we have no way of tracking your address changes. Please, as a courtesy, when your address begins to look even a little different from one you have been using in the past, unsubscribe from the old address and subscibe from the new one.
