FIND
Books and journals UO WorldCat locates books and journals from libraries around the world.  Items owned by the UO Libraries are listed first.  Next come items owned by Summit libraries, with a button for requesting from Summit.  Materials not owned by the UO or a Summit library can easily be requested with the interlibrary loan button. Due to licensing restrictions, some items available from the UO Libraries are not listed in UO WorldCat. UO Local can be used to find items that are owned physically by the UO Libraries or to find electronic resources for which the UO Libraries has a subscription.  UO Local includes items that are on order  or that are in process of being added to the library's colllection; local information about items in the library's collections; materials in Special Collections & University Archives; items owned by departmental libraries on campus, such as the Honors College; items in UO licensed collections, such as Eighteenth Century Collections Online and Making of Modern Law; and lists of UO theses and dissertations by department.
Journal articles UO WorldCat contains citations for more than 60 million journal articles, with more being added.  After doing a search, simply click on the Articles link in the Refine Your Search column.  Currently UO WorldCat includes citations from ArticleFirst, ERIC, Medline, GPO, British Library Serials, Academic Search Premier and Business Source Complete.  UO Local does not search for journal articles.   OneSearch can be used to identify and retrieve articles included in more than 200 library databases.
Music UO WorldCat contains many citations for music.  However, because of variations in how compositions can be described, locating a specific piece of music can be tricky.   Audio recordings can be identified by using the format options in  the left column.  UO Local provides more access points that can be used to identify a specific piece of music.   The uniform titles and alternative authors used in UO Local are useful in finding works by a composer or a performance of a piece of music.  Searches can be limited to recorded music by using the Audio Recordings setting.
Videos UO WorldCat looks for videos, in a variety of formats, when a search is first performed, although videos are interfiled with books and other types of materials.  Videos can be located by using the facets in the left column. UO Local contains records for videotapes and videodiscs (DVD and laserdisc) owned by the UO Libraries.  When performing a search, you can use the "Video & Film" setting in the drop down menu to limit your search to these formats.  Faculty and GTFs need to use UO Local to book a video.
Course reserves UO WorldCat will show if an item owned by the UO Libraries is on reserve and whether it is available. Reserve items owned by an instructor will not appear in UO WorldCat. UO Local allows you to search by course number or course professor to identify all materials on reserve for a specific class.
Call number UO WorldCat displays a classification number that looks similar to a call number. The classification number provides information about the general subject of the item. UO Local allows users to search by call number to confirm bibliographic information about an item owned by the UO Libraries or to find out an item's location or availability.
Electronic books & electronic journals UO WorldCat has only selective holdings for many of the electronic books and electronic journals licensed by the library. Library staff are working to insure that these materials can be found in UO WorldCat, when our licensing allows. Electronic journals can be found using the FindText button in UO WorldCat. UO Local has records for electronic books and electronic journals licensed by the UO Libraries.
UO theses & dissertations UO WorldCat has a record for theses and dissertations completed at the UO. Theses and dissertations can be found by author, title or subject. UO Local has records for theses and dissertations completed at the UO. In addition to looking by author, title, or subject, theses and dissertations can be located by searching by title for a department, i.e. University Of Oregon Theses Dept Of Physics.
Items on order or in process UO WorldCat does not contain records for materials that the library has ordered or that are in the process of being added to the library's collection. UO Local has records created when an item is ordered and is in the process of being added to the collection.
Items owned by departmental libraries, i.e. Honors College UO WorldCat does not list items owned by departmental libraries on the UO campus, since they are not part of the library's collection. Items that are owned both by the library and a departmental library will appear in UO WorldCat. UO Local has records items available in many departmental libraries on campus.
