MS PowerPoint Help

PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office suite of programs for Windows and Mac OS. It is similar to Apple Keynote.

General Tips

  • Using a black or gray background will display images to their best advantage

  • Use good quality jpeg files for color depth and a small file size

  • You can always adjust a large image to make it smaller on the slide, but you cannot make a small image larger

  • Inserting media clips (video, audio) will increase your PowerPoint file size dramatically. Use links to media on the web or elsewhere on your computer instead

 

PowerPoint 2007 for PC Basics

  • OpenPowerPoint

  • Under the Home tab choose a Layout

  • Under the Design tab go to Background Styles and choose a style with a black background OR choose a Theme with a dark background

  • Under the Home tab choose New Slide to add a slide

  • Under the Insert tab choose Picture and navigate to a picture on your computer. Click Insert

  • Save the presentation by going to the Microsoft Office Button > Save As > PowerPoint Presentation

  • Play the presentation by going to the Slide Show tab and choosing From Beginning

PowerPoint 2006 for Mac Basics

  • Open PowerPoint

  • Open the Formatting Palette if it does not do so automatically by clicking the Formatting Palette button on the main tool bar

  • Under Change Slides choose a Slide Layout and color scheme with a dark background. Click Apply to All

  • Under Add Objects choose a new slide to add a slide

  • Under Add Objects choose the Insert picture button and navigate to a picture on your computer

  • Save the presentation by going to File > Save As

  • Play the presentation by going to Slide Show > View Show
