Google docs Presentations Help

Google docs is suite of online software that requires the use of a free Google account. Google Presentations is similar to Powerpoint and Keynote.

General Tips

  • Using a black or gray background will display images to their best advantage

  • Use good quality jpeg files for color depth and a small file size

  • You can always adjust a large image to make it smaller on the slide, but you cannot make a small image larger

  • Inserting media clips (video, audio) will increase your Presentation file size dramatically. Use links to media on the web or elsewhere on your computer instead

Google Presentations Basics

  • From the Google docs Folder, click the Create new button and choose Presentation

  • Go to Format > Presentation settings > Change theme and choose a theme with light text

  • Go to Format > Presentation settings > Change background

  • Use the paint bucket button to choose gray or black for the background and check the Apply background to all slides box Note: if you did not choose a theme with light text you will need to change the text color on each slide as you go

  • Choose the Insert new slide button at the top left to make a new slide

  • Choose Insert > Image and browse to a picture on your hard drive. Click ok

  • Presentations are automatically saved as they are created by the text on the title slide. To rename the presentation go to File > Rename

  • Play the presentation by going to View > Start presentation. You must be online to view the Presentation directly from Google docs

  • To save a Presentation to your computer, go to File > Download As and choose the format you want
