Extron systems
Extron Control Systems
The Extron Systems CMET has installed in the
classrooms provide a powerful and versatile means of using media in your courses. All Extron Systems on the
University of Oregon campus have an integrated data/video projection
system, complete with audio, DVD, VCR, and computer projection
capabilities.
These systems do require some user knowledge for successful operation. Toward that end, we provide the following:
- Group and individual tutorials
- Text directions posted in the classrooms and online.
Extron Rooms

Extron System Operating
Instructions
See below for both text directions for Extron Systems with projectors or large plasma screen displays
EXTRON PROJECTOR SYSTEMS Text directions (Plasma Screen directions are below)
1.Operating the Projector
- Locate
the projector remote.
- Press
the RED or Green Standby/On button aiming it at the projector until the
projector lamp and fan come on.
FOR VIDEO (VCR or
DVD or AUX input)
- Press
VIDEO on the projector remote repeatedly to toggle between inputs.
Projector should display "No input detected on Video".
- Proceed to section
2 below.
FOR LAPTOP
COMPUTERS:
- Connect the VGA cable(attached to the media cabinet) to your laptop.
- Press
RGB on the projector remote. Projector should display "No input detected
on RGB 1".
- Attach
15 pin VGA cable to the laptop, turn laptop on.
- If
no image displays:
For PCs:
Hold down the Fn (function button lower left corner of the keyboard) and then
press the numbered F button on the top
row of the keyboard that has LCD/CRT or 2 monitor icons printed on the key. You
may need to do this 2 or 3 times.
For Macs:
make sure your VGA adapter is plugged in right side up. Go to "DISPLAYS" in
system preferences. For I-Books: click "Detect Displays". For G-4, click
arrangement tab at top middle of display window. Check the box in lower left
hand corner indicating Mirroring function on.
- For laptop audio it is necessary to plug a "mini to mini" or 1/8" to 1/8" (male on both ends) audio cable in to the headphone jack of the laptop, and then into the auxilliary audio input for the pc on the side of the media box.
Proceed to section 2.
2. The Extron Switcher
This system is controlled by and Extron
switcher; no touch panels or codes needed.
For Laptops:
- Press the PC button on the Extron switcher.
FOR DVD:
- Press the DVD button on the EXTRON switcher;
make sure you have selected VIDEO on the projector remote.
- You may use the DVD remote to control the
video; you may also use the controls on the front of the DVD deck.
FOR VCR:
- Press the VCR button on the EXTRON switcher;
make sure you have selected VIDEO on the projector remote.
- You may use the VCR remote to control the
video. You may also use the controls on the front of the VCR.
Volume Control
Use
the volume adjustment knob on the front of the Extron Switcher to adjust the
volume up or down for all sources. The volume knob spins freely. Volume level
is indicated by the LED's adjacent to the knob and are labeled LOW, MID and
HIGH.
Turning the Projector off:
Point the
projector remote towards the projector and hit the green Standby/On button
once. A message should come on the
screen indicating that you should hit the green Standby/On button again to turn
it off. Please do that. It will then go into cool down mode and turn
off when it is cool enough.
EXTRON SYSTEMS WITH PLASMA SCREENS:
POWER AND DISPLAY SELECTION
- Turn
the power on to the Screen
:"On" button is on the top left of the remote or on the Screen on the
bottom left corner.
- Select
Input mode for the screen:
use one of the following methods:
On
the screen remote, press
the "input" button to select either:
Input PC or Input 2 for VCR, DVD or AUX.
OR
On
the Screen use the input selector button located
on
the bottom left of the screen frame.
- Select display
device on EXTRON unit in media cabinet
. Press the button next to the device to be displayed. The Green LED should move to that input.

AUX (Input located on side of cabinet)

PC (VGA and 1/8" or mini audio jack input located on side of cabinet)
VOLUME CONTROL
- Use the volume adjustment knob on the front of the
EXTRON Switcher to adjust the volume up or down for all inputs.
Please turn off the screen when finished.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS:
- I followed all
directions, but my pc doesn't display
:
For
Macs: select System Preferences, displays, detect displays, or click
the "arrangement" tab and then "check"
the small box in the lower left corner of the pop-up window.
For
PCs: press the Fn button in the lower left corner of the keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY and possibly multiple times along with the "F-#" button at the top of the keyboard with LCD/CRT or an icon of two monitors
printed on it until the screen is displayed.
- Did I turn on the
Plasma Screen?
You should see the red LED on the bottom left hand corner of the TV turn
green.
- Does the Cabinet
Have Power?
Youshould see one green LED lit on the Extron Switcher on the left side and
one green LED lit indicating the selected input. The DVD and the VCR
should turn on.
- Is the volume
turned up?
You should see at least the Green Low LED lit on the Extron Switcher.
- I have no audio from my computer. Make sure the audio is turned on and up on your computer. Plug a 1/8" or mini headphone type cable into the headphone jack of the laptop, and plug the other end into the audio input on the media box. make sure audio knob on the Extron Unit is turned up.
