The blackboard course management system (we currently license "Blackboard Learn" from Blackboard, Inc.) has been used at the UO since 1999. Most UO courses use it to provide online course materials. Uses range from the syllabus, to course readings, to grade information, to online class discussion and homework submission, to in some cases a fullly online class.
The UO blackboard server is a very heavily used system. During the 2009-10 academic year (1 Sept 2011-31 Aug 2011) we had a total of 1.23 billion webserver hits and 6.5 million user logins (an average of more than 15,000/day). In Fall term 2010 we had 2248 active coursesites and about 86,000 student-course enrollments in active blackboard sites out of 91,000 total. At one point during dead week (Dec. 2010) there were 15,000 people logged in to our blackboard system -- more than half of all the people in the UO community.
